Surgery
Cobb Central Animal Hospital added CO2 laser surgery in 2000. The laser produces intense beam of coherent light that can cut, seal or vaporize tissue.
The benefits to your pet include:

  • Less Pain - the laser automatically seals nerve endings, which means the patient feels less pain post-operatively.
  • Less Bleeding - the laser seals small blood vessels during surgery.
  • Less Swelling - the laser does not bruise or tear tissue, thereby reducing inflammatory responses and hastening healing.
  • Quicker Recovery - decreased pain, bleeding and swelling mean that the patient can return to normal activity and the home environment sooner.

Dentistry

Oral disease is the most frequently diagnosed health problem for pets

  • An astounding 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats show signs of oral disease by age three, according to the American Veterinary Dental Society (AVDS).
  • Bacteria, combined with saliva and food debris between the tooth and gum, can cause plaque formulations that accumulate on the tooth. As bacteria grow in the plaque and as calcium salts are deposited, plaque turns to tartar.
  • If tartar is not removed from the teeth, pockets of pus may appear along the gum line and further separate the teeth from the gum, which allows more food and bacteria to accumulate.
  • Without proper treatment, this plaque and tartar buildup may cause periodontal disease, which affects the tissue and structure supporting the teeth.
  • We have a complete dental operatory and a dental x-ray unit for diagnosis and treatment of those conditions that occur below the gum line.

Dermatology

We have a complete in house laboratory as well as the availabliltiy of a dermatopathologist that will assist us in diagnosing most skin problems. Otitis, or ear infections, are considered a dermatological problem and is one of the most commonly diagnosed problems in dogs. Many pets come in for their wellness checkup and an ear infection is found, in spite of the fact that the owner had no idea there was anything wrong,

Ophthalmology

Eye problems are also not always noticed by the owner. Another good reason for semi-annual examinations, especially as your pet becomes older. Some eye diseases can occur very acutely and if not treated quickly, may result in the loss of the eye.
